Employee of the Month February 2025

Liviu Voicu

If Liviu Voicu was to give one piece of advice for new truck drivers it is to keep learning. ‘I learn something new every day’, Liviu explains. ’It doesn’t matter if you are young or old. You have to be willing to learn.’ This july Liviu will be working 9 years as a Truck driver for BAM Works. ‘I love working in the transport sector’. Liviu started out as a mechanical technician and welder on a freight ship. He found the work interesting, but the job is hard if you have a family. ‘You have to be on sea for 7 months at a time and that is too long if you have a young family’, says Liviu. So, he made the switch to truck driver.

At first, he worked for a different company, but then a buddy in England told him about BAM Works. ‘He told me how BAM Works treated its workers and what a good company it was. I wanted to experience this for myself and decided to make the switch’. He started out driving expensive loads across Europe. He loves these kind of long drives, but the security and the paperwork can be a hassle. Now he hauls vegetables, such as potatoes, carrots and beets. The long drives also got him caught in some tricky situations.

"One time during my drive to Poland it started to snow heavy. I couldn’t see anything. So, I decided to park the truck, and I got stuck. There was no way that rescue would come quickly.  I had to pull out my carpets and placed them under the wheels. It created just enough grip to pull the truck loose. My boss could not care less about the destroyed carpets. He was happy I got the load to my destination in time.’ Liviu says. Liviu has two boys at home (ages 22 and 18). They are all grown up now, but Liviu still thinks this job gives him the perfect balance between family time and work. ‘I work for 6 weeks and then 3 weeks off. If you stay for too long on your truck, you become rigid like a transformer. It is important to rest’, Liviu wants to let us know. Another thing Liviu finds important is to let the client know if there is a problem with the truck.

‘Don’t be afraid to speak up if you see something, otherwise it becomes the problem of the next driver.’
