Dimitar Parashkevov

Dimitar Parashkevov is a seasoned veteran. He has served two tours of duty in Cambodia and was deployed as a military officer in the Yugoslavian war in the early 90’s. At the same time, he was a professional wrestler and came in second in the European championships.

He knows how hard work and discipline can shape a man. It has given him a good work ethic. ‘I treat people with respect and when people do the same to me, we form a bond. ‘

After his time in the army Dimitar decided to go back to school and study engineering at the University Germany and Austria for 7 years. ‘It was an amazing time. I learned a lot, but unfortunately the army couldn’t offer me a job at my skill level. They said I could drive a tank. That was below my skill level’. In the army you can retire at 45 years old. And that is exactly what he did. He and his wife decided to move to Spain. There he started in a temporary job as a truck driver. Just for a few months was the idea.

‘In the army it is required that you can drive a number of different vehicles. You never know if your driver gets killed and you will have to take the wheel. So, driving a truck was not a problem for me,’ Dimitar explains. Twenty years later Dimitar is still behind the wheel of a truck.

‘You must be very concentrated to work as a truck driver, but it is not as stressful as driving a truck during war time.  I love it,’ Dimitar says. Dimitar speaks English, German, Spanish, Russian, Bulgarian and even a little Dutch. ‘My daughter married a Dutch guy. I want to learn some words to able to talk to him in Dutch’.

In 2023 Dimitar found BAM Works through a friend. ‘Working at AB Texel is so much better than the trucking companies in Spain. They are much more organised and care about every detail. Here everything is digitised. All your tasks are visible on the board computer. It is a much more high-tech system then what I was used to. It took some to learn it all, but now I don’t want to work any other way.’
