BAM WORKS in the news
When Rimvydas Zaksauskas (32) came from Lithuania to the Netherlands in 2016, he thought he would work there for one period as a seasonal worker. But working for temporary employment organization BAM Works had so many benefits that he returned a year. And now he has lived and worked in the Netherlands for nine years.
Rimvydas came to the Netherlands because he saw job opportunities here. “I had stopped with my training as a geography teacher and could not find a job in Lithuania. A relative of mine was already working as a truck driver for BAM Works. He told me about his experience and I thought, 'Why not?”
That's how the then 23-year-old Rimvydas came to the Netherlands. “The first two years I worked as a seasonal worker and picked strawberries. During that period I still lived in Lithuania. Later I settled here and had several other jobs. For example, I worked for three years at a tree nursery. Currently I have been working for two years at GlasBest, a factory where, among other things, the jars for sauces of Jean Beton are made. My job is at the packaging department.”
Rimvydas has previously had jobs that didn't suit him. “I pointed this out to my job coach. The nice thing was that she immediately started to look for a job that did suit me.”
Well organized
Although there are many temp agencies with all kinds of jobs, Rimvydas chose to work for BAM Works for nine years. “I am very satisfied with this company,” he relates. “There are many shady companies and here everything is well organized. I am very satisfied with the way we communicate together. If I or a colleague has a question or problem, time is always set aside to discuss it. I don't feel like a number here.”Questions colleagues come up with are diverse.“If someone needs to go to the airport, the company arranges transportation if needed. And if a co-worker needs to go to the doctor a job coach will accompany them to assist with this or help to translate a letter,” Rimvydas lists. “And of course we discuss our working conditions. If something needs to be adjusted, we get support if we can't solve it.”
Family
In addition to this personal support, they also arrange transportation and housing for employees and ensure that the homes are neat and well-maintained. “I live in a house in Berkel-Enschot. We live with eight people and I share a bedroom with another worker. They do try to provide a single room for everyone, but they are not there yet,” Rimvydas said. “But I am very happy with my roommate and my other roommates. We have been living together for a long time, keep each other in mind and engage in activities in our free time. They are my family in the Netherlands. I am happy here.”Rimvydas is also happy with the activities that BAM Works organizes for its employees.“We had a barbecue last year, we went bowling and did a flower arranging workshop. This helps us get to know each other better and build new friendships. In addition as an experienced employee, I like to help new employees on their way. I enjoy doing that. That way I can give something back to the company.
